Varicose Veins and Blood Clots

Removal of varicose veins is often done for cosmetic reason. However, the condition can also be very painful, though not as dangerous as blood clots.

Varicose veins are caused by damaged valves in veins. They appear swollen and purple and can be highly visible beneath the skin. The condition is more common in women and can be caused by pregnancy. They can also be caused by standing for long period over an extended period. Weight, more specifically, being overweight, can lead to the vein damage. Heredity also seems to play a role in determining who will be affected and who will not.

Spider veins, which are red and purplish areas that appear on the legs and ankles as a result of swelling, are associated with this condition. Pain usually manifests as aching and stinging in the thighs, lower legs, ankles and feet.

A mush more serious vein condition is the forming of blood clots. In hospital patients are encouraged to move about as soon as possible after surgery to help speed recovery and avoid potential complications. One such complication would be a clot, which can occur after medical procedures or illnesses when patients spend a lot of time in bed and are immobile. Clots can also result from infection, trauma, pregnancy and hormone imbalances and tumors.

There are different kinds of obstructions in the veins. Deep vein thrombosis occurs in deep veins. This condition has become a big concern as we have more diagnosis of it. Pulmonary embolism is a clot that breaks loose and moves to the lungs, with the capability to be lethal.

It’s very important to take every symptom seriously and have it checked out by your doctor. When an illness is caught early, you have a great chance of getting rid of it or finding the right treatment sooner than later.
